I was sleeping alright. It was cold so she had put a warm quilt over me. Maya had been really nice to me ever since she took me in her house. It has been around 3 years now that we have been together. Oh, I am sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Kat from the photo, with a ‘K’, (‘pun-intended’).
Things were going amazing until Maya started dating this guy. Duh! I hate his guts. Hey, she saved me, I know what she is worth. Stop abusing her.
Anyway, I digress. So, back to the point. I was sleeping alright with a warm quilt over me. But when I woke up, I felt warmer than usual. I felt sun-rays brushing my cheeks. Well, that’s different. It’s supposed to be cold here this time of the year. I knew Christmas was round the corner as I had seen neighbours decorating X-mas trees and piling up gifts.
I see one in front of me. But this is different. Where are we? We are not in our usual home anymore. She escaped. Maya escaped! Well, I did want her to be happy but changing location is the solution? I am not sure.
But I am happy for her. She is singing Christmas Carols. I think it’s her mother’s house that she had left long time ago. I had seen her anxious and depressed and strangely happy whenever she saw her mother’s photo before. I am sure it’s her – the lady from inside the frame. I see Maya chuckling after so long. Well, of course I am the one who she is the happiest with. Because, let’s face it, I am pretty awesome. But she is happier now. I am happy for her. I just hope she gathers a little bit more courage to not give in to her fears. But I am sure that day will come soon. For now, this is a good start. One thing at a time.
